German environmental watchdog group Ökowatch urged German policymakers today to scrutinize Green NGO agendas in a protest in front of the Bundestag and Chancellory.

"We are here today in front of the Bundestag and the Chancellory to urge German government officials to reject the scare tactics and -­- all too often -­- unsubstantiated claims of Green NGOs," Fabian Heinzel of the Ökowatch editorial office states.

"With lacking consideration of empirical data and the real economic, political and social effects of their campaigns, organisations such as Robin Wood, WWF and Greenpeace are lobbying for more money from the German government and Brussels to carry out environmental campaigns that cater to special interests and impede economic growth in developed and especially emerging countries. This endangers prosperity in the developed countries and prevents the poor from improving their lives in developing countries," Heinzel continues.

"Ökowatch is rising up to challenge these Green NGOs, offering an alternative environmental view that values sound data and free and fair trade."

Ökowatch aims to critically and without any underlying ideology assess environmental policy requirements of governments and non-governmental organizations and to examine them with regard to their actual impact on people, society, and the environment.
