Today Renewal2 announces its two newest investments in Alter Eco Americas and Better Energy Systems.

Early in April, Renewal2 invested in San Francisco-based Alter Eco Americas: a leading importer, wholesaler and brand owner of a broad range of Fair Trade, Organic and Carbon Neutral products. Building on the success of Alter Eco France, Alter Eco Americas sources its products from over 200 cooperatives in developing countries around the globe.

The cooperative model pioneered by Alter Eco France has been incredibly successful and has captured worldwide attention, including the founder of Alter Eco France, Tristan Lecomte being named one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World," says Paul Richardson, Renewal2 President.

At the end of April, Renewal2 closed its most recent investment in Better Energy Systems (BES). Based in Berkeley, California, BES is an innovative developer of clean mobile technology products. SOLIO, the company's first product, is a universal hybrid solar charger for mobile devices. Through relationships with partners such as Vodafone, BES has the opportunity to provide safe and affordable sources of power to the developing world where it is estimated that over 500 million people have access to mobile phones but not to an electricity grid. This company has experienced tremendous growth since it was founded in 2002 and Renewal2 invested alongside social venture fund TBL Capital on this deal.

Renewal2's portfolio now has six companies including: Blue Horizon Organics, Horizon Distributors, Rustic Crust and Seventh Generation.

The fund will soon close to outside investment. Renewal2 already has over 50 investors from Canada, U.S. and Europe and is anticipated to reach over $30 million by its May 31, 2010 deadline.
