Opportunity Collaboration-the poverty alleviation "un-conference"-announced today a partnership with the sustainable resort Playa Viva to combat poverty in nearby Juluchuca, Mexico.

"Opportunity Collaboration fosters a unique spirit of cooperation and innovation," says CEO Jonathan C. Lewis. "This spirit is exemplified by Playa Viva, which is combating local poverty via an ecologically regenerative, market-sustainable business."

Located about an hour south of the Opportunity Collaboration campus, Playa Viva's boutique hotel offers guilt-free luxury in an eco-conscious resort and incorporates leading green-building techniques, a "regenerative" approach to the environment and an inclusive strategy for community development. Playa Viva is a catalyst for not only eco-tourism and related jobs, but helps create equitable markets for local small businesses-including organic farmers and an artisanal salt co-op.

In addition to investing in Playa Viva, Opportunity Collaboration will feature a special extended work session at the anti-poverty meeting entitled Poverty Reduction The Eco-Tourist Way, led by David Leventhal, Playa Viva CEO. Says Leventhal, "This forward-thinking conference is making another innovative step by bringing local community leaders into its impressive array of poverty problem-solvers."

About The Collaboration

A four-day strategic and problem solving business retreat for nonprofit leaders, for-profit social entrepreneurs, funders and social investors working to combat poverty, the 2010 Opportunity Collaboration is already 62% sold out.

"The Opportunity Collaboration is a unique gathering," says Lewis, "marked by a generosity of spirit and a commitment to relinquishing institution egos. With the goal to accelerate the effectiveness of anti-poverty organizations, attendees reach well beyond the boundaries of conventional poverty alleviation to improve the impact and effectiveness of their work."

The event will take place October 15-20, in Ixtapa, Mexico. Applications and further information are available at www.opportunitycollaboration.net.
