With the unemployment rate in the U.S. at the highest rate it’s been in 18 years*, SC Johnson has something to celebrate. Today marks the tenth year SC Johnson has been recognized as a 100 Best Company on FORTUNE magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" in America list. The company appears at number 83. The list debuted in 1998.

"It is an honor to be recognized for the tenth time," said Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson. "SC Johnson has a long history of being recognized as a great place to work and we are thrilled to be on the list, especially when many companies are facing uncertainties."

For generations, SC Johnson has worked to make the company a great place to work. The family company's culture is based around the goodwill of the people and knowing that their motivation drives success. The commitment to doing what's right for their people is one way SC Johnson is set apart from other companies, especially when many companies have required furloughs and layoffs. Last September, the company was honored by AARP for the fourth consecutive year, Working Mother for the 21st year, and the Human Rights Campaign. SC Johnson is one of three Wisconsin companies on the list.

Continuing a Family Culture
FORTUNE specifically credited SC Johnson for no layoffs in 124 years, 2 percent low turnover rate and telecommuting option. The company's employee concierge service was also recognized as a unique perk. These are just a few offerings that shape the company's special, family culture.

SC Johnson's work tenure is another factor that makes the company so unique. The dedicated workforce at SC Johnson has an average tenure of more than 14 years of service to the company. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of Labor, the average tenure for wage and salary workers at a company is only 4.1 years** and 54 percent of workers have been with their current company less than five years*** The percentage of wage and salary workers in the U.S. with more than five years of tenure at SC Johnson is 77 percent.

"We're a family company," said Johnson. "Receiving recognition for doing what is right for our people inspires us to continue building on a culture where people feel comfortable to be themselves and where they can do their best work. Longevity is important to us at SC Johnson. We want to be here tomorrow and for generations to come and treating our people with respect, dignity and fairness is one way we work for the long term."

About the FORTUNE "100 Best Companies to Work For" List
The complete list of top-rated companies is available on newsstands in the Monday, Feb. 8 issue and at www.fortune.com/bestcompanies this week. FORTUNE and Great Place to Work® Institute compile their 100 Best list based on an extensive questionnaire, an employee survey and a written portion including stories from employees explaining what makes their company a great place to work. The Great Place to Work® Institute surveyed employees from more than 343 candidate companies.

"The 100 Best Companies to Work For" list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work® Institute in San Francisco, based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the opinions of the company's employees. To pick the 100 Best Companies, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about the management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring, communication, and diversity. Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible. The deadline for applying for next year's list is April 2, 2010.
