In the wake of the devastating earthquake that has struck the nation and people of Haiti, The Pew Charitable Trusts is contributing $500,000 to support relief efforts. The relief comes in two separate grants of $250,000 each to the American Red Cross and CARE.
"The people of Haiti are dealing with disaster on a massive scale," said Rebecca Rimel, Pew President and CEO. "We want to support the rapid and extensive response to this earthquake and its inevitably difficult aftermath. We also urge other philanthropies and corporations to join us in supporting Haiti relief during this time of great need."
The contributions will help provide emergency services and other support to those affected by the earthquake, ensuring access to food, shelter and medical care.
"We are proud to join with the American people as our nation comes to the aid of our neighbors in Haiti," Ms. Rimel continued. "Since its first such grant in 1948, Pew has consistently supported the outstanding work of relief organizations like the American Red Cross and CARE."
