MEMPHIS, Tenn., Dec. 22 /CSRwire/ - A pair of Safe Kids collaborations have received top honors for exemplary relationships in the area of promoting pedestrian safety.
Safe Kids Philippines and FedEx were honored with the global award for 'Outstanding International Walk This Way Partnership,' while Safe Kids Denver Metro and FedEx Corp. were honored with the U.S. award for 'Outstanding U.S. Safe Kids Walk This Way Partnership.'
"Our staff in Washington relies on the dedicated, passionate and inspiring people at the local level who take our injury prevention messages out into their own communities," said Mitch Stoller, President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide. "As a grassroots organization, we would not be able to deliver vital safety knowledge to parents and caregivers everywhere without our network of coalitions and our generous sponsors around the world. The exemplary relationships of FedEx - Safe Kids Philippines and FedEx - Safe Kids Denver Metro are key ingredients to our success."
"Safety is one of our company's core values, and we have been dedicated to improving child pedestrian safety through the Safe Kids Walk This Way program," said John Formisano, FedEx Vice President of Global Vehicles and Safe Kids Board Member. "The FedEx-Safe Kids programs rely heavily on employee engagement and volunteerism in addition to the dollars we give in support of Safe Kids, enabling the coalitions to achieve a lot that they could not otherwise cover. The FedEx Philippines and FedEx Denver collaborations particularly shine through the strength and number of our volunteers, putting them into the forefront as top teams. I am proud to know they have been honored for the work they are doing to get the message out about the importance of teaching our children about pedestrian safety."
Safe Kids Denver Metro has been working closely with FedEx Denver since 2002 on a variety of Walk This Way pedestrian safety initiatives, including International Walk to School Day, Photovoice, distracted driver research, and Halloween safety. Safe Kids Philippines has been working closely with FedEx Philippines since 2004 on pedestrian safety initiatives including International Walk to School Day, Photovoice, Global Road Safety Week, and Safe Kids Week.
"We are so honored to be recognized for the work we are doing to get the message out about the importance of teaching our children about pedestrian safety," says Leslie Feuerborn, Coordinator of Safe Kids Denver Metro. "Thanks to the support of FedEx, we are able to hold hands-on programs in our community that will help children in the Denver metropolitan area stay out of the emergency room."
Together, Safe Kids and FedEx have reached more than three million children through classroom education and at thousands of events with important messages about pedestrian safety. In the last 12 months, more than 2,000 FedEx employees have volunteered worldwide. Since 2000 FedEx has contributed more than $12,000,000 to the Safe Kids' Walk This Way pedestrian safety program worldwide.
