First Book Awarded Charity Navigator's Highest Four-Star Rating for Third Consecutive Year

First Book, the nonprofit providing new books to children in need, has been awarded with a 4-Star rating for the third consecutive year by Charity Navigator, the nation's leading charity evaluator. Only 13% of the charities rated by Charity Navigator have received at least 3 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that First Book consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way and outperforms most other charities in America.

"We are particularly pleased to receive this 4-star rating as Charity Navigator is well-known for the rigor of its careful analysis of the financial stability and efficiency of the nation's top nonprofits," said Jane Robinson, First Book chief financial officer.

Charity Navigator highlights the fine work of efficient charities and provides donors with essential information needed to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make. Based on the most recent financial information, this "exceptional" designation from Charity Navigator differentiates First Book from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.

Charity Navigator, which does not endorse nonprofits, uses an objective, numbers-based rating system to assess the financial health of more than 5,500 of America's best-known charities. The group's professional analysts examine tens of thousands of nonprofit financial documents. Charity Navigator's rating system examines two broad areas of a charity's financial health -- how responsibly it functions day-to-day, as well as how well-positioned it is to sustain its programs over time. Each charity is then awarded an overall rating, ranging from zero to four stars.
