The Gasoline Alley Foundation announces another in a series of provocative presentations in contemporary thought and entertainment. Ed & Deb Shapiro will be traveling from London, England to discuss their new book "Be The Change." Their new book is a fascinating exploration of how Meditation can awaken our latent potential and transform the world by creating the foundation for a caring and compassionate future. The book is scheduled for publication November 3, 2009. The event will take place at the Gasoline Alley Foundation's Community Room located at 250 Albany Street Springfield, Mass. on November 17, 2009 starting at 6:00 P.M. A social hour will be followed by a discussion at 7:00 P.M. Food and drinks will be provided.
Internationally renowned Zen Buddhist teacher Bernie Glassman, a pioneer in the American Zen Movement, will be attending the event providing an insight into contemporary Buddhist thought. Bernie is a spiritual leader, published author, accomplished academic and successful businessman with a PhD in Applied Mathematics; currently teaching at the Maezumi Institute and the Harvard Divinity School. He is the founder of the Zen Peacemakers and member of the Advisory Board of the Gasoline Alley Foundation.
In addition to Zen Master Glassman, William Spear, "recognized as the ultimate Western authority on the ancient Chinese practice (fung shui)" by Jan Stuart, curator of the Smithsonian's Sackler-Freer Gallery, will offer his insights during the event. He is a, consultant, author and lecturer on responsible business practice, cooperative finance, integrative medicine, the I Ching, end-of-life care, and personal transformation. His clarity and ability to synthesize complex and diverse material is inspiring, insightful and empowering.
The event foreshadows an enlightening elixir in Meditation and Contemplation with a mixture of fun and friendship. The Foundation is expecting a full house and the venue can accommodate sixty guests. Other events in the series included the "Ukulele Safari" from the tropical rainforest in Northeastern Australia, "A Monk's Journey" a film by Academy Award nominee Frederick Marx, "Hoop Dreams," documenting the journey of Tibetan Monks and fifteen children traveling through the Himalayas to attend school and the "Hugs for Thugs" 2009 summer youth program, where thirty inner city youth were taught that all things abandoned have value.
The Foundation will be presenting a "Film Series" that will include three recently released and unreleased films. The first film will be "Food Fight," an examination of the food industry in the United States, the second film will be "Dirt," a further examination of global food production and its impact on society and lastly "Dhamma Boys," a documentary from the Alabama State Penitentiary and the impact of meditation on hardened criminals.
Events by the Gasoline Alley Foundation are Free to the public. Donations to the artists and the Foundation are always welcomed and appreciated.
