What do Boston Celtics All-Star Paul Pierce, former president Bill Clinton, and multi-platinum recording artist Usher all have in common? A common interest in helping America's youth. The power trio were on hand today to join forces with the world’s foremost leaders to tackle pressing global issues at the Clinton Global Initiative. With child obesity quickly becoming a national issue, this conference was the perfect platform for Pierce to officially launch his Truth on Health Campaign, a national effort designed to bring health and fitness to America's youth. Other famous celebrities in town for the Clinton Global Initiative included Brad Pitt, Barbra Streisand, Goldie Hawn, and Jessica Alba.
Pierce attended the Clinton Global Initiative to meet with experts on global health and economics to share ideas and discuss effective solutions for the critical societal issue of sedentary lifestyles among America's youth.
As part of his work for the Truth on Health Campaign, Pierce has joined forces with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint initiative of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation aimed at combating childhood obesity.
The seven-time NBA All-Star will personally oversee the Truth on Health's signature component, FitClub34 presented by Title Sponsor Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a web-based "fit" club that provides children with the information, resources, and tools necessary to become more active and physically fit. The program encourages 10-14 year-olds from New England and across the country to make a one-year pledge to eat healthy and engage in sixty-minutes of daily physical activity.
Building on the momentum of the Truth on Health unveiling, Pierce will launch FitClub34 on September 26th in Boston at Trinity Plaza Copley Square. The event will include a public workout with hundreds of children from Boston Centers for Youth & Families in attendance. Pierce, along with local fitness experts in dance, yoga, mixed-martial arts and jump rope, will teach attendees simple and fun ways to stay active through everyday activities. In addition, world-renowned celebrity chef Ming Tsai and campaign partner Kids Can Cook will lead a cooking demonstration to show the participants how to prepare simple, nutritious meals at home.
