While governments continue to debate reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and many companies are waiting for outcome of the debates, SC Johnson continues to move forward in its quest to do the right thing and today becomes a founding member of Conservation International’s (CI) Team Earth project.

Team Earth, a worldwide sustainability effort unites businesses, non-profit organizations, scientists, educators, individuals and children in an international collective action campaign to address the most pressing environmental issues facing humanity. The first challenge the movement aims to tackle is climate change making the project a natural fit for the company that has long been committed to reducing its footprint by finding innovative renewable energy solutions and reducing GHGs.

"To further support the great work of Conservation International, SC Johnson is excited to be a founding partner of Team Earth," said SC Johnson Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson. "Creating a lasting legacy for our families and communities around the world has been our commitment for more than 120 years and this is a value on which we base our business. By working with partners that understand the need for rigorous science, human welfare and growing support for environmental protection, together we can make leaps toward protecting the world’s resources for future generations. It is our responsibility as a global company to make good choices for the environment. As a longtime partner of CI, SC Johnson is looking forward to the work to be done."

As a founding member, SC Johnson has already signed the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change, which calls on world leaders to sign an ambitious and fair agreement on climate change. The company also continues its quest to do the right thing and is currently developing new worldwide greenhouse gas objectives. These new goals are necessary because the company has already reached its previous goals three years ahead of schedule which includes cutting GHGs at its worldwide factories by 27 percent, while emissions in the United States shrunk 17 percent since 2005. These reductions were achieved over the past eight years and a full three years ahead of SC Johnson’s 2011 target.

Team Earth's first commitment is to recruit individuals to save the world’s forests, a vital element in preventing climate change. As an ongoing campaign, Team Earth will take on five critical topic areas: climate change, water, health, waste and food. The initiative will urge individual actions and present easy solutions to ensure a more sustainable world. For more information visit www.teamearth.com
