Phoenix, AZ - July 27, 2009 - Phoenix veteran in advertising and marketing and a Business Journal 40 Under 40 Alum, Lisa Barnard of Brain Lab, recently achieved LEED(R) AP (Leadership In Energy & Environmental Design Accredited Professional) with the U.S. Green Building Council. A month prior, she completed her green auditor certification with Washington, D.C. firm Strategic Sustainability Consulting (SSC). These credentials are popular - LEED AP with construction professionals and Green Audit with the building and design industries however; Barnard provides a unique well-rounded mix with her expertise in marketing, branding and communications that brings an organization's sustainability plan full circle.

"Lisa has the qualifications and the marketing know-how to help her clients integrate "green" into their internal operations," says Park Howell, President of Park & Co., a local marketing agency. "Lisa is way ahead of her creative communication contemporaries by getting her LEED certification, because it completely rounds her out as a green marketer. Not only can she tell a creatively compelling story about her clients' work in sustainability, she can help them actually activate their green programs."

LEED AP provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures. The backbone of the green audit is the carbon footprint analysis that also includes the following: employee survey, office/building survey, facility walk-through and staff presentations on understanding sustainability, and a final report of findings and recommendations. Aside from being a robust methodology for determining important metrics in the sustainable or "green" movement it has also become an indicator for areas of potential cost savings.

Barnard says that "Companies can do well, by doing good and a Green Audit ensures that relevant metrics are being factored into an overall "green" marketing strategy. The key to businesses adopting a sustainability program is understanding where the real cost-savings can be found."

Brain Lab incorporated sustainability consulting as a service in 2007 to support clients Pyramid Developers , SoMo Development and Insulock. After attending the inaugural Sustainable Brands Conference in New Orleans from Sustainable Life Media, Barnard became convinced of the need for authenticity and transparency in brand messaging and believes the Green Audit to be an integral component to the firms branding process.
