Hong Kong, July 14, 2009 - Procter & Gamble (P&G) has garnered the International Stevie(R) Award for Corporate Social Responsibility Program (Asia - China, Japan and Korea) from The 2009 International Business AwardsSM (IBA), the all-encompassing business awards program that celebrates accomplishments and positive contributions of organizations and business people worldwide.

The company has also been awarded the International Stevie Finalist Certificate for Corporate Social Responsibility Program (Asia - Subcontinent, Australia and New Zealand).

The Stevie(R) Award, one of the world's most coveted business awards (and dubbed by Paul Tharp of the New York Post as the business world's own Oscar Awards), recognizes P&G for its dedication and efforts in helping children in need to "Live, Learn and Thrive". P&G brings to life in Asia its global cause of "Live, Learn and Thrive" through a diverse range of CSR programs designed to help underprivileged children aged 0-13, who constitute over 25% of the Asian population, gain access to education. In 2008 alone, P&G Asia's CSR programs successfully reached out to over 18 million children in more than 10 countries, bettering their education through building of schools, provision of school supplies, training of school teachers, etc. Related P&G donations to Live, Learn and Thrive causes have amounted to over US$15 million.

"We are very honored to receive this prestigious award," said Deb Henretta, Group President, P&G Asia. "Our ‘Live, Learn and Thrive' programs are part of P&G's unwavering commitment to touching lives and improving lives, now and for generations to come. Through the continued passion and commitment of our employees in close collaboration with our business and NGO partners, we target to expand the breath and depth of our 'Live, Learn and Thrive' programs to cumulatively reach at least 75 million children in Asia by 2012."

Among "Live, Learn and Thrive", P&G focuses on the "Learn" pillar in Asia with key programs including:

  • "Project Hope School" in China, which has donated accumulatively US$7 million to build 170 Hope Schools, benefiting over 100,000 poverty-stricken children;

  • "Dream Together for the Future" in Korea, which enables handicapped children to thrive via self-esteem and life skills development programs;

  • "Shiksha" in India, which extended the education path of over 87,000 underprivileged children with a record-breaking donation of around US$1.6 million;

  • "Beyond Border" in Singapore;

  • "Open Minds" in Malaysia; and

  • "3-pid Gift of Education" in the Philippines.
Through partnership with external stakeholders and employee volunteerism, these programs have delivered broad-based results with strong momentum.

The 2009 International Stevie Awards winners are selected from more than 1,700 entries coming from over 30 countries. The board of adjudicators and advisors consists of top business leaders including Donald Trump. The prestigious awards will be presented in New York on September 14, 2009.
