ATLANTA, GA. - July 8, 2009 - In continuing its longstanding relationship with L’Oréal Paris, Points of Light Institute announces that for the fourth year in a row, it is working with the company during its annual search for Women of Worth. The awards program honors women who have invested in their communities by dedicating their lives to volunteerism and civic engagement. Individuals interested in nominating their favorite woman for the award are invited to visit the L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth online community at www.womenofworth.com. In addition, visitors to the site will find information on how they can become involved in volunteer opportunities in their area. The nominations has been extended until July 23, 2009.

With much progress being made this year alone in the nonprofit sector, 2009 marks an important phase in the nation’s renewed call to service, especially for the numerous women who are making amazing contributions in their communities daily as leaders in change and service. From setting up literacy programs to spearheading children’s initiatives, more than 30 exceptional women have been recognized as Women of Worth over the past three years.

Last year, Cindy Kerr of Wayne, Pennsylvania was named the Women of Worth National Honoree. Cindy was chosen via a national public vote for her work with ConKerr Cancer "“ A Case for Smiles. As the National honoree, Kerr received an additional $25,000 donation for her cherished non-profit organization.

"As a past Woman of Worth award recipient, I’m overwhelmed by the amount of support I’ve continued to garner for ConKerr," says Kerr. "Just as importantly, the thousands of smiles we put on the faces of children with life changing illnesses and injuries is a testament to the true power of volunteerism, and how a simple idea can incite people to take action."

Women of Worth, an initiative which honors and awards women for their inspiring volunteer achievements and outstanding commitment to community service, was created by L’Oréal Paris to bring its iconic brand philosophy, "Because I’m Worth It," to life, and to further L’Oréal Paris’ ongoing commitment to female empowerment. A Woman of Worth has always represented a confident woman who is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others, and embodies the heart and spirit of the L’Oréal Paris brand.

This year, 10 Women of Worth honorees will receive $5,000 for their charitable causes and a matching donation will be made on their behalf to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Additionally, one National Honoree will receive an additional $25,000 donation to her cherished nonprofit organization. The Women of Worth National Honoree will be chosen via a public online vote held this fall at www.womenofworth.com.

"There is a great need for more engagement in communities, and now more than ever, women are answering the call to serve," says Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light Institute and co-founder of HandsOn Network. "For the past four years, L’Oréal has established itself as a leader in corporate service by honoring women change makers for their extraordinary dedication to community engagement. This awards program is important not only because it shows that people truly do have the power to make a difference in the world, but it demonstrates how corporations can shines a light on change-makers and thereby inspire others to realize their power to change their communities.
