July 7, 2009 - SustainAbility is seeking an experienced Social Policy Director to join our Advocacy Team. The team is responsible for ensuring that the organization is expert, compelling and articulate about key social and environmental issues. We are looking for a creative team player, comfortable with our hybrid campaigning/consulting identity and excited to contribute to our work with senior corporate decision makers to achieve transformative leadership on the sustainability agenda. The Director will be based in London or Washington DC. The Director’s primary responsibilities are:
To build our organisational knowledge based on the specific social issues relating to SustainAbility’s priority sectors – healthcare, food & beverage, energy, IT, mobility and finance
To embed this knowledge in our advocacy and consulting work in pursuit of SA’s end goals of a healthy planet, equitable access to healthcare, energy, food and corporate accountability
To lead or support billable advocacy and consulting work – the Director will join either our food or healthcare team
To undertake business development including development of client opportunities, sector development, networking and outreach
To lead or support thematic advocacy work – written, representational and media work to enhance SustainAbility’s thought leadership
You should have:
At least seven years relevant experience of working in business, government or NGO
At least five years management experience
An advanced degree in business or a directly relevant field
Demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, the social agenda in relation to the corporate sector
Knowledge and experience of working with issues central to either health care or nutrition, including an understanding of human rights
A commitment to SA’s Mission, Vision and Values modelled in behaviours
An enthusiasm for working in a small team demonstrating energy, self-motivation, collegiate problem solving and an ability to think outside the box
Demonstrable experience in engaging with a consulting business, or experience of developing or implementing a change strategy within a business
A proven track record of business development and maintaining senior client relationships
A willingness to travel worldwide, extensively
Experience of writing under pressure and to tight deadlines
Experience of public speaking and working with the media
Salary range is between £45,000 - £70,000 or $ 80,000 – $110,000.
