Pittsburgh,PA. - May 19, 2009 - Bayer Corporation has been named one of DiversityInc’s Top 10 Companies for Asian-Americans, a select list of companies that have demonstrated a long-term commitment to hiring, retaining, compensating and promoting Asian-Americans.

DiversityInc, launched in 1997, publishes a monthly business magazine and daily news Web site focusing on diversity in the workplace.

The DiversityInc evaluators commended Bayer for its commitment and initiatives, including:

  • Bayer has a 10 percent Asian-American workforce in the United States, with strong retention and talent development.
  • The Bayer Asian Society in America was formed in 2008 within Bayer HealthCare's New Jersey sites to promote professional development and growth for its members and enhance awareness and understanding of Asian culture and employee values.
  • The Bayer Diversity Advisory Council, established in 1999, sponsored conferences where employees and leaders exchanged views and shared diversity best practices.
  • A Chinese-American network was formed at the Bayer HealthCare Berkeley, Calif., site, expanding its successful employee networks.
According to DiversityInc, its list evaluation process examines several ratios that show how companies are increasing the presence and role of Asian-American employees. DiversityInc reviewed the strength and purpose of companies’ Asian-American employee resource groups, mentoring programs, philanthropic and scholarship efforts in the Asian-American communities and relationships with minority business enterprises and suppliers.

The other nine companies listed are Abbott, American Express, Colgate-Palmolive, Deloitte, HP, IBM Corporation, Johnson & Johnson, Sempra Energy and Wells Fargo & Company.
