SAN ANTONIO - September 12, 2007 - The AT&T Foundation - the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) - today announced a $1.5 million competitive grant program to help nonprofits integrate wireless communications technology into educational outreach projects. Open to 501(c)(3) public charities and government instrumentalities nationwide, the program will help nonprofits deliver educational content and enhance learning opportunities in the communities that they serve.
"AT&T is committed to improving education and to supporting innovative applications of wireless and other technologies that help students achieve academic success," said Laura Sanford, AT&T Foundation president. "Mobile technology provides students of all ages with opportunities to learn anytime and anywhere."
The AT&T Foundation will award one-time, education-focused, wireless technology grants ranging from $2,500 to $25,000 for wireless applications and hardware. Examples of eligible projects include:
To qualify for a grant, organizations must utilize the funds for projects that enhance the delivery of education through wireless technology in settings that engage youth and adults in life-long learning. Additionally, 51 percent or more of the project must target underserved populations, including racial and ethnic groups, low-income populations, seniors, youth and/or people with disabilities.
Interested organizations can apply by downloading a copy of the request for proposals (RFP) from http://www.att.com/foundation. All proposals must be received by AT&T no later than Oct. 19, 2007. Additional guidelines and restrictions are listed in the RFP.
AT&T is committed to investing in programs that enhance and enable success in education for students of all ages. The AT&T Foundation supports initiatives that help students throughout the higher education continuum: the successful completion of high school; preparation for and entrance to college; and degree completion and graduation. Additionally, the foundation supports organizations and programs that integrate technology into daily classroom instruction and administration activities, develop community and civic leadership and encourage workforce development.
AT&T and the AT&T Foundation provided more than $21.8 million to support education initiatives across the nation in 2006. Since 1996, the AT&T Foundation has distributed more than $383 million in grants to support new classroom technology, after-school programs, teacher training and many other educational endeavors.
