TAMPA, FLA., and JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA) today announced a grant to the PACE Center for Girls to fund an e-learning initiative that builds life-enhancing skills for girls at risk throughout Florida. The initiative utilizes simulated space exploration to teach math, science, team building and problem solving while instilling confidence. The grant brings CA's monetary and in-kind support of PACE to more than $60,000. Previously, CA donated software, hardware, training and support to build the organization's technical infrastructure.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the PACE Center for Girls is a nationally recognized not-for-profit agency focused on gender-specific prevention programming for girls at risk of dropping out of school or engaging in criminal behavior. Since its opening in Jacksonville in 1985, PACE has served over 15,000 girls and has helped over 90% of those completing the PACE program avoid the juvenile justice system. PACE currently directly services more than 2,500 girls annually in 19 Florida centers located in Bradenton, Daytona Beach, Ft. Pierce, Gainesville, Immokalee, Jacksonville, Key West, Lakeland, Miami, New Port Richey, Ocala, Orlando, Pensacola, Pinellas Park, Tallahassee, Tampa, Tavernier, West Palm Beach and Wilton Manors.
"The PACE Center for Girls has proven that by addressing the conditions that negatively affect young women, lives can be changed for the better," said Anne Marie Agnelli, director of community and public affairs at CA. "We are proud to support PACE and celebrate its 20-year history of success." CA's Florida offices are located in Jacksonville, Lake Mary, Miami, Sarasota and Tampa.
"As a result of our ground-breaking, gender-focused research and documented success rate, PACE serves as a model for not-for-profit organizations that help girls," said Donna Gallagher, chief operating officer of PACE. "CA has been a very supportive partner that understands that an investment in our program will have a positive far-reaching effect on girls throughout the country."
CA's grant to PACE is the most recent of its donations to benefit Florida residents. In fiscal year 2005 alone, the company donated more than $250,000 to charitable organizations serving the state including: the American Red Cross; the Tampa Boys & Girls Club; Tampa General, Wolfson Children's Hospital, and Howard Phillips Center (through the Starlight Starbright Foundation); the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; the Hillsborough Education Foundation; and the American Heart Association.
