EDMONTON, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2007--The Dell Foundation has approved a $35,000 grant to Edmonton's Centre High School for its ongoing career development programs in the technology sector.
Principal Ray Cimolini expressed his thanks for Dell's ongoing commitment to career education at Centre High, which provides education for older students who did not complete their education in regular high schools, or who require upgrading to prepare for further studies.
"We've had a strong ongoing relationship with Dell almost since they opened their site in Edmonton in 2004," Cimolini said. "It includes regular talks to classes, computer tear-down labs and various career day presentations. On behalf of all students and staff at Centre High, we are grateful Dell continues to contribute to opportunities for our youth to be prepared for work in the real world."
"We are committed to contributing to the quality of education wherever our employees live," said Dell Edmonton Site Lead Dave Vanden Bosch. "Focusing on helping organizations that foster computer skills is key because this knowledge is a prerequisite to success in a world driven by a digital economy."
Opened in November 2004 to deliver high-quality support to Dell's growing customer base, Dell's Edmonton Customer Contact Centre has expanded to almost 1,400 employees, supporting consumer and business customers throughout North America.
Late last year, the Dell Foundation granted a total of $35,000 to the Edmonton Inner City School for new computers to teach digital skills to disadvantaged students; the School Lunch Program of the Edmonton City Centre Church Corporation, which feeds hundreds of children every day so they can learn, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Edmonton for their ongoing mentoring programs.
The company also donated $20,000 to the Junior Achievement program in Edmonton last year to sponsor programs in four local schools, and provides ongoing volunteerism and financial support to the Edmonton Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity and other local non-profit organizations.
Dell, which celebrated the official opening of its new permanent site in the Edmonton Research Park on Oct. 5, 2006, has more than 25 customer contact centres worldwide to support customers anytime, anywhere. To learn about career opportunities in Edmonton, visit http://www.dell.ca/edmonton.
