MIDLAND, MI "“ April 17, 2007 - The Dow Chemical Company announced today that the company has joined the United States Climate Action Partnership. Launched in January 2007, the USCAP is an alliance of major businesses and leading climate and environmental groups that have come together to call on the federal government to enact legislation requiring significant reductions of greenhouse gas emissions. Dow Chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris will join the USCAP CEO Board and Dow will be represented on the Steering Committee.
Commenting on Dow's USCAP membership Liveris stated: "Climate change is real and the most urgent environmental issue our society faces. Slowing, stopping and reversing the causes of climate change will require collaboration, innovation and sound public policy. We are therefore very pleased to join the United States Climate Action Partnership, and help drive its goals and principles."
The USCAP developed a set of principles and recommendations to guide the formulation of a regulated economy-wide, market-driven approach to climate protection. The six principles, outlined in the "Call for Action" are:
