DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2007--ExxonMobil announced today the kick-off of this year's ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program (CSJP) in Texas. Now in its 36th year nationwide, the Texas programs pair 139 undergraduate college students with Dallas and Houston-area nonprofits through an internship program which is mutually beneficial to the students and agencies.

Students are exposed to the world of nonprofits, gain valuable experience and earn a paycheck, while nonprofits receive much-needed help during the busy summer months. ExxonMobil supports the program in both cities with grants totaling $340,000, which fund intern salaries and administrative expenses.

"Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in meeting the needs of Texas citizens, and the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program introduces young leaders to this calling of service through a fulfilling summer internship," said Gerald McElvy, ExxonMobil Foundation president. "We are proud to support such an outstanding program that provides agencies with manpower while allowing college students to sharpen their skills and explore a new world of career and volunteer opportunities."

Both Texas cities officially started their programs today with receptions honoring the incoming interns and agencies participating this year. During the receptions, elected officials and community leaders spoke about the impact nonprofits have on local communities, and the 2007 ExxonMobil Community Champions were announced. Two Community Champion awards were given in each city, to exceptional former CSJP interns who have gone on to make full-time careers in the nonprofit sector. This year's honorees were Daniel Anderson, tomahawk district executive, Circle Ten Council: Boy Scouts of America in Dallas; Jessica Johnson, volunteer service coordinator at BEAR in
Houston; Ashley Kurth, education coordinator, Dallas Symphony Association; and Andrea Murray, curriculum and staff development manager at Reach Unlimited in Houston. All four Community Champions received a crystal award in recognition of their work in the local community.

The Dallas program is administered by the Volunteer Center of North Texas and the Houston program by Volunteer Houston. Both organizations assist in managing the summer internships and also provide training to agencies on the recruiting, interviewing and selection process. Participating nonprofits are responsible for interviewing and hiring their own individual interns, which ensures that the unique needs of each agency are best met.

"We're proud to continue our partnership with ExxonMobil and the company's signature Community Summer Jobs Program," said Carrie Moffit, executive director of Volunteer Houston. "Over the years we have placed hundreds of college student interns with a variety of Houston area nonprofit agencies, providing much-needed assistance to
our community."

In addition to their regular job responsibilities, interns come together throughout the eight-week program for development seminars, community service projects and networking opportunities in their individual cities, which help prepare them to enter the workforce and deepen the impact they are able to make on their community.

Since the program began in 1971 in New York City, ExxonMobil has provided more than $7.7 million to support nearly 3,700 community summer job internships in 10 states including: Alabama, Alaska, California, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming, as well as internationally in Angola. In 2007, ExxonMobil will provide more than $725,000 in grants to fund the program nationwide.
