Fannie Mae (FNM/NYSE), the nation’s largest source of financing for home mortgages, was recognized by Latina Style Magazine as one of the 50 Best Companies providing professional opportunities for Latinas in the U.S. Fannie Mae has been ranked among the 50 Best Companies for Hispanic Women by Latina Style for the past 3 years.

More than 600 companies were evaluated based on the issues identified by Latina Style’s readers as the most important to them in the workplace. The principal areas of evaluation were: number of Latina executives; mentoring programs; Latinas on board of directors; educational opportunities; dependent/child care support; leave for childbirth; alternative work policies; benefits; women’s issues; and Hispanic relations. Some of Fannie Mae’s high-ranking Hispanic female executives include: Mercy Jimenez, senior vice president of marketing in Dallas; Ann Marie Wheelock, senior vice president of the Pasadena Regional Office; and Fe Morales Marks, vice president, national housing impact division in Washington, DC. Additionally, signature benefit programs such as ACE (Assistance for Collegiate Education) and a highly successful mentoring program, which partners employees with the management group, are examples of Fannie Mae’s strong commitment to diversity.

"Fannie Mae’s record of diversity is no accident it is a business priority," said Maria Johnson, vice president of diversity, health and work-life at Fannie Mae. "The company has established clear goals to increase the ratio of minorities at the officer level, tie compensation to promoting diversity, and implement an ambitious array of human resources programs. Company leaders are urged to unleash the potential of all employees, promote a spectrum of perspectives, view differences as assets rather than liabilities, and help create a diverse, talented and committed work force."

President George W. Bush will recognize the Latina Style 50 companies during Hispanic Heritage Month in October, at an exclusive ceremony at the White House. Latina Style 50 - 2001 marks the fourth year the magazine has evaluated corporate America’s sensitivity to Latina needs in the workplace.
