El Segundo, Calif. - In response to the devastation caused by the powerful earthquake in Indonesia on May 27, Mattel, Inc. today announced a cash donation of $50,000 to Save the Children. Funds will be put toward immediate relief efforts and to support the establishment of temporary schools in the affected areas. In addition, the Mattel Children's Foundation will open its Matching Gifts program internationally for disaster relief donations.

"The impact of the earthquake on the people in central Java is immense. We are fortunate to be able to make a meaningful difference for those in need, particularly children and families, during this difficult time," said Kevin Farr, chief financial officer of Mattel, Inc. and chairman of the Mattel Children's Foundation. "We are pleased to be able to support our ongoing partner, Save the Children, in their efforts to address the immediate and long-term needs of children and families in the region."

"The earthquake that struck Indonesia has created, once again, a crisis for children and their families," said Charles F. MacCormack, president and CEO, Save the Children. "We thank Mattel and the Mattel Children's Foundation for their continued support of Save the Children. Our work will help meet the immediate survival needs of children and families in the area, many of them now displaced from their homes, with a special focus on ensuring that children are protected and safe."

The Mattel Children's Foundation Matching Gifts Program for Disaster Relief will match, dollar for dollar, any donation made by a Mattel, Inc. employee for disaster relief efforts. International employee donations will be matched to corresponding US-based charities for earthquake relief programs.
