SAN FRANCISCO, CA. - April 20, 2009 - McKesson Corporation today announced the kick-off of the 11th annual McKesson Community Days, a corporate citizenship program which brings McKesson employees together to participate in large-scale volunteer projects. This year more than 14,000 McKesson Community Days volunteers at McKesson sites across the country will create care packages for hospitalized veterans at VA medical centers. In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, McKesson Community Days volunteers will assemble tote bags that contain some of hospitalized veterans' most requested items including a fleece blanket, personal care items, and most importantly, a hand-written note of thanks for their service to the country.

"As a veteran myself, this cause is especially close to my heart, and McKesson's support of our country's veterans makes me extremely proud," said John Figueroa, former U.S. Army Captain and current President of McKesson's U.S. Pharmaceutical business. "Underscoring our commitment to improve the health of the healthcare system and help those in need, McKesson employees from more than 130 offices across the country are donating their time to create more than 16,000 care packages to make the lives of our honorable veterans a little more comfortable."

VA hospitals serve approximately 5.5 million veterans each year and are committed to supporting veterans across the continuum of care. "The VA is dedicated to serving the needs of America's veterans nationwide. Thanks to the efforts of thousands of McKesson volunteers, 16,000 veterans will receive important personal care supplies to help them maintain good health," said Laura B. Balun, Director, Voluntary Services Office, Department of Veteran Affairs.
