RACINE, Wisconson - Modine Manufacturing Company (NASDAQ: MODI) has been chosen by Business Ethics magazine as one of the "100 Best Corporate Citizens" for the third consecutive year. The article is featured on the cover story of the March/April 2002 issue of Business Ethics, a publication that focuses on social responsibility of corporations and progressive management practices. Modine is ranked 62nd this year, up from 89th in 2001. Modine is one of forty-nine companies that have made the listing for all three years. This year's first place finisher is IBM, with Hewlett-Packard in second. Other notable companies that appear include Procter & Gamble, Motorola Inc., Cummins Engine, Intel Corp., Sun Microsystems, and Starbucks.
To award the "100 Best," the magazine uses a quantitative measure to evaluate companies based on corporate service to various stakeholder groups: stockholders, employees, customers, the community, the environment, overseas stakeholders, and minorities and women. Modine tied for first in the category of service to the environment along with Herman Miller, Intel, Corp., Whirlpool, Gillette, and Baxter International.
