Polaroid Corporation is donating fl. 100,000 (approximately $ 50,000) to disaster relief efforts for the residents of Enschede, Netherlands, where the company operates a major manufacturing and distribution facility.

At least 18 people died and more than 900 were injured in the wake of a fireworks explosion May 13 that destroyed homes and businesses in Enschede, a community of 150,000 people near the German border.

"We're terribly saddened by this tragic accident and are working with Dutch officials to help the residents of Enschede survive this difficult time," said Gary T. DiCamillo, Chairman and CEO of Polaroid.

In addition to the cash donation, Polaroid will make interest-free loans available to its Enschede employees impacted by the explosion to help them rebuild their homes, repair damages, and deal with other related problems.

Polaroid has also established a process for its 8,800 employees worldwide to make personal contributions to the relief effort through donations to the American Red Cross. All U.S. donations of at least $25 will be matched by the company.

"We feel extremely fortunate that none of our employees perished in the explosion and that our plant received only minor damage. Now we want to help build a foundation of goodwill that will allow the community of Enschede to recover and prosper," DiCamillo said.
