3Com Helps Turn Hollywood Premiere of ''The Core'' into Opportunity to Inspire Future Leaders from Diverse Backgrounds

The three named beneficiary organizations from this star-studded Hollywood event are the following: The African-American Male Achievers Network, The Algebra Project, and Brothers Building Diversity in the Sciences. All three organizations aim to encourage minority students to pursue educational and professional advancements in a variety of disciplines.
3Com has a track record of helping to bridge the Digital Divide through its Urban Challenge program, which was created to help cities incorporate information technology into the fabric of their communities and enhance education and public communications systems. Today, 3Com's sponsorship of the beneficiaries at the premiere of "The Core" at Mann's National Theateris to encourage young people, especially in minority groups, to pursue studies and careers in technology and sciences, including computer science.
"Movies can create powerful images for our youth," said Delroy Lindo, a leading actor in the movie "The Core" and event chairperson for the charity event. "The movie 'The Core' is one such film as it portrays two African-American scientists who help save the world from total destruction. Paramount Pictures and dedicated organizations, such as 3Com, are honoring community organizations that are committed to empowering under-represented minority students in math and science."

To utilize science and technology as a motivational tool and advance the educational achievement, intellectual and career development of African-American students and other minority students 5-17 years of age.
-- The Algebra Project
The Algebra Project is a national mathematics literacy effort aimed at increasing the number of students who achieve the prerequisite mathematical skills to enter a college or preparatory math sequence, and attain full citizenship in today's technology society.
-- Brothers Building Diversity in the Sciences
The mission is to inspire under-represented minority students to explore biomedical careers.
