The United Negro College Fund (UNCF), United Airlines and Harry London Candies have announced a joint in-flight candy promotion that will benefit students attending 39 historically black colleges and universities. Beginning immediately, for approximately 12 months, United Airlines will offer more than 5 million bars of Harry London Gourmet chocolates embossed with the UNCF seal, as the dessert portion of United's North America snack box offering. United's in-flight snack boxes will include a gourmet milk chocolate or a milk chocolate with crispies candy bar. The packaging is embossed with the UNCF seal and a toll-free number for customers who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the fund. United will purchase the chocolate bars from Harry London Candies, who will provide UNCF with a percentage of the proceeds from each bar sold. "This is a unique and invaluable venture," said William H. Gray III, President and CEO, United Negro College Fund. "This program will provide UNCF with an additional vehicle for raising money for economically disadvantaged youth who want to go to college." United's internal research has shown that including a larger candy bar in our snack box offering has had a dramatic impact on how customers evaluate meal service. "This innovative partnership provides us with an opportunity to increase customer satisfaction and give something back to the communities we serve," said Larry DeShon, Managing Director of Onboard Service at United Airlines. "We are proud to be the first airline to enter into a creative partnership of this type with such a well respected organization." Founded in 1944, The United Negro College Fund is the nation's oldest and most successful minority higher education assistance organization in the country. UNCF has raised more than $1.4 billion to support its consortium of 39 private institutions, and administer more than 450 educational programs, including scholarship programs, mentoring, summer enrichment, study abroad, curriculum and faculty development, and leadership development. With service to 27 countries and one territory on five continents, United Airlines provides one of the most extensive in-flight catering services in the world. Every day, United serves more than 200,000 meals to customers on more than 2,300 flights across the globe. In addition to its regular catering service, United works in partnership with the Culinary Institute of America and celebrity chefs Sheila Lukins, Martin Yan, Sam Choy, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Norman Van Aken, Charlie Trotter and Jacques Pépin.
