SEATTLE, WA - Washington Mutual today announced three additions to its Community and External Affairs Division, which is charged with coordinating Washington Mutual’s community activities across all regions and business lines. The company views its commitment to communities as a key element of both its core business strategy and corporate values, and continues to develop its resources in this area.

Reza Aghamirzadeh has been hired to lead the Community Performance Resources team which is focused on ensuring that Washington Mutual meets its Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) commitments in the most strategic way. A key part of that effort is supporting the company’s 10-year, $375 billion lending and investment pledge to increase the availability of affordable housing and lending programs to communities that have been traditionally under-served. Aghamirzadeh with more than 15 years of financial services industry experience, previously served as senior vice president and director of community development for U.S. Bancorp.

Scott Gaspard joins the team as lead for the company’s Government and Industry Relations group, managing the company’s public policy and legislative activities nationwide. As a company with a large, national presence, Washington Mutual is very engaged in policy and legislative activity at both the State and Federal levels. Gaspard has spent more than 25 years in government relations and policy development roles in the financial services arena. Most recently, he was president of the Washington Financial League and the administrative director of the Washington Mortgage Lenders Association.

Wayne Bradshaw will leverage his more than 30 years of financial services experience as President for the Community and External Affairs Division’s Southwest regional team, responsible for the company’s community activities in California, Nevada and Arizona. Prior to joining Washington Mutual, Bradshaw was president and CEO of Family Savings Bank, California’s largest African-American controlled financial institution. Previous roles include senior leadership positions at Founders’ Savings and Loan Association, Union Bank and Industrial Bank.

“Scott, Reza and Wayne bring the deep experience, passion for community and commitment to excellence that Washington Mutual seeks out in its leadership,” says Benson Porter, SVP and Division Executive for Community and External Affairs at Washington Mutual. “We are pleased to be able to build on the strength of the team we have in place by adding these three highly capable executives.”

Gaspard, Bradshaw and Aghamirzadeh join a seasoned management team already in place in the Community and External Affairs Division:

  • Bob Flowers, a more than 30-year industry veteran, plays a dual role – managing the company’s Community Lending and Investment team nationally as well as serving as President for the Northwest region’s community affairs.

  • Donna Wilson also plays a dual role, managing both Community Development Resources activity nationwide and leveraging her extensive background in the financial industry and community development as President for the Northeast region’s community affairs.

  • Bettye Wilkes manages Washington Mutual’s Corporate and Employee Giving team, managing charitable giving and volunteerism activities across the country.

  • Susan James serves as President for the Southeast region’s community affairs, coordinating the company’s community activity across business lines.
