The company said it will also waive the one-time $10 fee to open its money wire transfer account to Mexico, InterCuenta Express, and will credit customers for the $10 transfer fee, until January 31, 2003. In addition, an account has been set up at Wells Fargo so that anyone interested can also contribute to the American Red Cross relief fund.
"This earthquake was devastating to the people of Colima and surrounding areas in loss of both lives and homes," said Laura Schulte, president of Wells Fargo's community banks in California, Nevada and the Mexican Border region. "Their need at this time makes national boundaries meaningless because the victims not only are our neighbors but they also have strong family connections to many of our customers here in California. On behalf of all of our team members at Wells Fargo, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
