These milestones and many others are highlighted in Imperial's 2003 corporate citizenship report; A Partner in the Canadian Community, now available online at www.imperialoil.ca.
"Imperial's directors, management and employees understand that exemplary corporate citizenship - including sound corporate governance and financial controls, high standards of business conduct, and community engagement - is fundamental to sustained business success and vice versa," said Tim Hearn, president & chief executive officer of Imperial. "The fact is, you cannot have one without the other."
A Partner in the Canadian Community outlines Imperial's safety and environmental performance, community contributions, corporate governance and ethical priorities and standards, as well as the company's commitments to meaningful dialogue with communities and other partners.
"We are acutely aware of our responsibilities to Canadian communities, particularly those in which we operate," said Hearn. "Imperial works to build open and mutually beneficial relationships with neighbours, keeping them informed about important issues such as safety, health and the environment and working to address any concerns they may have."
Imperial is one of Canada's largest corporations and has been a leading member of the country's petroleum industry for more than a century. It is also the country's largest refiner and marketer of petroleum products - sold primarily under the Esso and Mobil brands - with a coast-to-coast supply network that includes 2,100 gasoline retail outlets.
