Awards announced this week in the magazine's March 2005 issue.
"The Oil and Gas Investor Excellence Awards honor commitment to quality and innovation in the most important areas of the oil and gas industry," said Bob Jarvis, publisher for the Houston-based magazine. "Exemplary corporate citizenship is one of those areas."
The magazine called Oklahoma City-based Devon an ambassador for the industry, especially in the highly populated areas around the Barnett Shale adjacent to Fort Worth, Texas. The company holds more than a half million acres of land in the Barnett Shale, and it produces from more than 1,900 wells. Because of Devon's size in the region, community involvement is a high priority.
"With so many land and mineral owners, local governments and agencies affected, the company has perfected an ambitious community outreach and education program," said Leslie Haines, editor-in-chief. "The citizenship award recognizes Devon's role as a goodwill ambassador and for its environmental, health and safety record across all of its operations in North America."
Devon's community outreach program is not limited to operations in the Barnett Shale. The company's efforts span operations throughout North America, from the Rocky Mountains of Montana and Wyoming to the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana.
"The program has become a model that other companies are emulating," said Devon President John Richels. "It reflects the core values long established in Devon's corporate culture."
