SALT LAKE CITY - August 13, 2007 - Qwest and the Qwest Foundation recently helped bring sweet music to the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival with a contribution of $50,000. This Qwest Foundation grant supports clinics for young musicians to meet and learn from artists participating in the festival.
Qwest also provided clothing and equipment for the dozens of volunteers.
"Summer is a great time to be in Salt Lake City, and the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival is one of the premier events of its kind in the Intermountain West," said Jerry Fenn, Qwest president for Utah. "I am honored that the Qwest Foundation is again sponsoring clinics to enable aspiring musicians to work with established jazz masters. Maybe someday we will see one of them on stage."
"The Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival is about the music - a cross-section of American jazz," said Jerry Floor, festival director. "We bring great artists from around the world, show off some of Utah's finest jazz musicians and offer music education to jazz musicians of all ages. And, thanks to partners like Qwest, all of this is at no cost to attendees. Seven years in the making, this year's festival promises to be bigger and better than ever."
The three-day festival draws an estimated 50,000 jazz enthusiasts and spectators annually.
