NEW YORK, NY - BT (NYSE: BTY) announced today that it has raised over $100,000 for Project Renewal, a charity that helps the chronically homeless men and women of New York City. At a charity gala event at Capitale in Manhattan, BT raised the funds primarily through a live and silent auction, with the live auction managed by C. Hugh Hildesley, senior vice president, Sotheby's New York. The Gala Event was also supported by the current cast of "Rent" who made a special appearance and performed several songs from their hit Broadway show.

This is the second Charity Gala Event BT Americas has held in support of Project Renewal. Last year, the company raised over $70,000 which has been used by Project Renewal to support over 13,000 homeless men and women as they find their way to health, homes, jobs and a life with dignity.

"We're proud to be involved with Project Renewal and the significant work this non-profit organization carries out for the homeless people of New York City", said Chuck Pol, president and chief operating officer, BT Americas and a member of the Board at Project Renewal. "At BT we take our role in corporate social responsibility seriously and encourage the involvement of our employees in support of the communities where we work and live."

"Project Renewal is thrilled to once again be the recipient of BT Americas' enormous generosity," said Edward I. Geffner, Executive Director of Project Renewal. "Together we've been able to make a huge difference in homeless New Yorkers' lives. This year's extraordinary contribution will help thousands of our most vulnerable citizens get a second chance."

On behalf of the cast of Rent, Justin Johnston, who plays the role of Angel, said, "We're pleased to support this event organized by BT to raise funds for Project Renewal and to raise awareness of the issues faced by the homeless in New York City." The cast of Rent also donated 4 VIP passes, including a backstage tour to their show, as one of the items for the live auction.

    About Project Renewal
For 37 years, Project Renewal has been helping homeless New Yorkers achieve health, homes and jobs. We focus on the neediest of the city's indigent population - men and women who, in addition to being without a home, cope with mental illness, addiction to drugs or alcohol: this is the so-called "chronically homeless" population.

Project Renewal is the only organization in New York, and one of the very few across the nation, that provides everything chronically homeless people need to move from the streets to independent living in the community. Our comprehensive progression of services begins on the street where our mobile psychiatric and medical outreach teams - each of which was amongst the first of its kind - reach out to homeless people where they are struggling to survive. Once connected, we help them move out into residential programs through which out clients recover their health and learn to manage their mental illness or achieve sobriety. From there, we help them prepare for, find and keep jobs. Permanent housing is the last element in this progression, completing our clients' return to a self-sufficient life in the community.
