Trex Company (NYSE: TWP) was honored by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Recycling Division with the "Excellence in Plastics Recycling" Award at the SPE's Annual Recycling Conference in Dearborn, MI.

The award was based on recycled plastic volume, type of plastic used and the resulting product and its success in the marketplace. Trex Company manufactures Trex(R) Easy Care Decking(R) primarily from recycled plasticgrocery bags, reclaimed pallet wrap and waste hardwood from furniture manufacturers. Trex decking features splinter-free comfort and requires no stains or sealants for protection due to its composition. In Y2000, Trex Co. purchased more than 200 million pounds of recycled/reclaimed polyethylene (PE) and equal amounts of waste wood, materials that would normally end up in a landfill.

Harry Monahan, Trex Co. Vice President of Manufacturing, who accepted the award said, "There are few greater honors than being recognized by your peers with an award of this importance." An SPE committee reviewed the applications, which were based on nominations from SPE members. "These are industry professionals who know our process and the strengths of our product, so that makes the award even more meaningful," said Monahan.
