BOSTON, MA - September 13, 2007 - Ceres has been named one of the 100 most influential players in the corporate governance movement by Directorship Magazine. Ceres cutting edge work improving corporate governance practices was highlighted in the magazine's September issue.

"It's a great honor for Ceres to be recognized for the role it plays in encouraging corporations to improve their social and environmental practices," said Mindy S. Lubber, president of Ceres. "Climate change and other sustainability threats are fundamental economic issues and corporations need to recognize this and improve their governance practices accordingly."

Ceres has been a corporate governance leader since its founding in 1989 and has contributed the following:

  • Ceres created the Ceres Principles, a pioneering 10-point code of corporate environmental conduct that let to widespread adoption of environmental principles by corporations worldwide.

  • In 1997, Ceres launched the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), which has become the internationally established standard for corporate reporting on the "triple bottom line" of economic, social and environmental performance. Currently, more than 1,200 corporations produce GRI-based sustainability reports.

  • Ceres launched and directs the Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR), a $4 trillion network of investors that promotes better understanding of the financial risks and opportunities posed by climate change.

  • Ceres, in collaboration with Yale and investor giant Marsh, is launching a new program, the Sustainable Governance Forum on Climate Risk, to educate corporate directors about the potential liabilities and business opportunities global climate change can create for companies. The first training program is being held September 25th in NYC.

Ceres is a national coalition of investors, environmental groups and other public interest organizations working with companies to address sustainability challenges such as global climate change. For more information, visit http://www.ceres.org.
