BBJ Environmental Solutions (OTCBB: BBJE - news) reports that by a vote of 50 - 5, the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee approved the bipartisan "Energy Advancement and Conservation Act of 2001." Sponsored by subcommittee chair Joe Barton (R-TX), the bill directs the Secretary of Energy to "develop and implement a public education campaign to educate homeowners and small business owners concerning the energy savings resulting from regularly scheduled maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems." To accomplish this goal, the bill authorizes $5 million for the Secretary to spend during fiscal years 2002 and 2003. During the Committee hearing, Rep. Steve Largent (R-OK) introduced an amendment directing the Secretary to allow trade, professional and energy efficiency organizations who have expertise in servicing HVAC/R equipment the opportunity to participate in the program.
