SAN FRANCISCO - The Charles Schwab Corporation is celebrating its third annual employee volunteer day today, during which Schwab employees and executive sponsors at the company's major centers of employment throughout the U.S. will spend a portion of the day doing charitable work in their communities. The name FERSTT Aid Day is derived from the acronym representing the corporate values for which Schwab employees are held accountable in their daily work at Schwab: Fairness, Empathy, Responsiveness, Striving, Teamwork, and Trust.

Targeted cities for community outreach include Austin; Denver; Indianapolis; New York; Orlando; Phoenix; Richfield, Ohio; San Francisco; and Raleigh, North Carolina. Over 1,200 employees across the firm are signed up to participate, benefiting close to 50 nonprofit organizations coast-to-coast. Not only will these nonprofits receive direct service from Schwab employees, but they will also each get a $1,000 grant award from Charles Schwab Foundation.

Among the organizations where employees will volunteer are:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of America

  • Habitat for Humanity

  • The Salvation Army

  • Ronald McDonald House Charities

  • Public elementary and high schools

  • Humane and animal welfare societies and SPCAs

  • Organizations dedicated to providing health, social and human services to seniors, children and families

  • Municipal parks and recreation areas

  • Community food banks
As part of FERSTT Aid Day and to encourage Schwab employees to exercise their personal philanthropy during the month of May, donations made by employees to their favorite charities will receive a special match of 100% through the Employee Matching Gifts program. The standard match rate throughout the rest of the year is .50:1.
