In an effort to bring clean electricity to Texans, The Upper Kirby District Foundation, Green Mountain Energy Company and Nuon today announced that construction has begun on Green Mountain Energy(SM) Solar at the Upper Kirby District, owned and operated by Nuon Renewable Ventures L.L.C. Once completed, the commercial scale 43kW solar array will be one of Houston's largest solar facilities.

The solar array will be located on the top of the Upper Kirby District Center building which is home to The Upper Kirby District Foundation, The Houston Intown Chamber of Commerce, Crisis Intervention, and Citizen's Environmental Coalition among others.

The facility will be owned and operated by Nuon, the Netherlands' largest utility and a leader in renewable energy development. Electricity generated from the 43kW installation -- comprised of 440 individual solar panels manufactured and designed by BP Solar -- will be delivered to the grid due to the support of Green Mountain Energy Company's Big Texas Sun Club(TM) customers.
