BOCA RATON, Fla. - U.S. Plastic Lumber Corp. (Nasdaq:USPL), announced today that its Carefree Xteriors(R) Decking Systems was a recipient of Building Products magazine's annual Top 100 Product Awards for 2001.
Robin Jacobs, Vice President of Marketing, said, "The Top 100 Award recognizes products that have generated the highest number of sales leads for the year as a result of editorial coverage in selected building and remodeling trade magazines. USPL actually ranked #66 on the Top 100 list." Ms. Jacobs added, "We are thrilled with being a recipient as this Award symbolizes the great success our products are experiencing in the marketplace and the wide appeal we are receiving with consumers, builders and remodelers."
USPL also announced that Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Inc. has completed its testing and has found USPL's HDPE material to be in compliance with the applicable requirements for all color HB flammability in the 6.8mm thickness and is suitable for outdoor use.
This certification means that Carefree Xteriors(R) HDPE, which is manufactured using USPL's exclusive CycleX.(TM) technology, can safely accommodate electrical wiring and outlets in outdoor applications. CycleX. technology - the advanced method of processing plastic waste streams (milk cartons, grocery bags and industrial plastic waste) into durable, purified, consistent products - is used exclusively by USPL across all of their product lines.
Tom McEvoy, president of USPL's plastic lumber division, said, "This is great news for us. Our UL compliance lends another level of credibility to the alternative recycled HDPE lumber we manufacture. It's reassuring to companies we work with on the Engineered Products side of our business, like Dimension One who uses our HDPE for spa skirting. As for our Building products division, UL allows consumers to safely run wiring in outdoor applications, like lighting on decking and railing, with our Carefree Xteriors Decking Systems."
Underwriters Laboratory is an independent, not-for-profit product safety testing and certification organization. Founded in 1894, they have more than 775 current standards.
