May 10, 2007- Baxter was recently recognized by two organizations, the Ethisphere Council and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, for its leadership in ethics, community engagement and environmental initiatives. Additionally, Baxter was applauded for its involvement in local initiatives aimed toward reducing greenhouse gases. Baxter Recognized as Ethics and Compliance Leader

Baxter has been named to the "World's Most Ethical Companies" list by the Ethisphere Council and Ethisphere magazine for its strong leadership in ethics and compliance, advancement of industry discourse on social and ethical issues, and positive community engagement. The Council chose fewer than 100 companies from several thousand organizations that they analyzed over a six-month period. The process included reviewing companies’ codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at companies’ activities to improve corporate citizenship; studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers; and working with consumer action groups for feedback and rating.

Baxter Named Green Power Partner by U.S. EPA

Baxter joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Fortune 500 list of Green Power Partners for its significant green power purchase. The EPA recently released its updated Fortune 500 Green Power Partner Challenge list with Baxter’s corporate headquarters campus in Deerfield, Ill. placed at number 22 of 43 companies ranked by green power usage. Baxter purchased Green-e certified renewable energy certificates, equivalent to the 15.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity used on an annual basis at its corporate headquarters campus, from Baltimore-based Constellation NewEnergy, which in turn purchases clean renewable wind energy from a network of wind power generators across the country.

Baxter First Company to Purchase Carbon Credits Offered by Illinois Farmers

Baxter was the first company to purchase carbon credits offered by Illinois farmers and landowners through the Illinois Conservation and Climate Initiative. By voluntarily adopting conservation practices that will reduce greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, nearly 200 farmers and landowners throughout Illinois are earning "carbon credits" that are then sold for payment as offset credits on the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Doug Scott said he appreciates the support that Baxter, a founding member of the CCX, provides, "As a market-based program, it is important to have solid support from the corporate community, such as Baxter. They are supporting this important environmental endeavor both as a purchaser of carbon credits, but also serve on the Chicago Climate Exchange board."
