Baxter International Inc. Named to KLD's Domini 400 Social Index
For the fifth consecutive year, Baxter has been named to the KLD Domini 400 Social Index (DSI). Launched in 1990, the DSI consists of 400 U.S. companies that demonstrate leadership in corporate social responsibility. KLD evaluates company performance on the following issues: environment, community relations, diversity, employee relations, human rights, product quality and safety, and corporate governance.

Baxter Recognized by U.S. EPA for Achieving Climate Leaders Greenhouse Gas Emissions Target
Baxter was one of five corporations recognized in January for achieving voluntary greenhouse gas reduction goals set through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Climate Leaders program. Baxter met its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 16 percent per unit of production value by 2005. With the commitment of companies like Baxter, EPA estimates that meeting GHG goals will prevent more than 8 million metric tons of carbon emissions equivalents per year. This is equal to the emissions of 5 million cars annually.

Baxter Named to Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World List by Innovest Strategic Value Advisors
For the second year in a row, Baxter was named to the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, announced January 27 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Baxter shares this distinction with 16 other U.S. companies and seven other healthcare companies for sustainability performance.

Baxter Recognized As Top Three Company in São Paulo State for Water Recovery Initiatives
In recognition of World Water Day 2006, Baxter Brazil was recognized by The Federation of São Paulo State Industries (FIESP) as one of the top three companies in São Paulo state for water reduction and recovery initiatives. Baxter's work on "The Water Balance and Six Sigma Methodology Used for Water Consumption Reduction" helped qualify the company for FIESP's "First Water Recovery Award."

Baxter International Foundation Health Services Prize To Honor William B. Graham
To honor the memory of William B. Graham, long-time CEO of Baxter International Inc., who passed away in January at the age of 94, The Baxter International Foundation has created The William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research. The $50,000 annual award will be administered by The Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and given to a researcher who has made contributions to improving the health of the public worldwide. Specifically, the award will recognize health services research that has a lasting impact on the healthcare system and the way healthcare is delivered. The prize succeeds The Baxter International Foundation Prize for Health Services Research, formerly a $25,000 award, given by the foundation since 1986. This year's winner will be announced later this month, and presented with the award at the AUPHA Annual Meeting in Seattle on June 24, 2006.

Baxter and its Foundation Contribute More than $35 Million to Communities in Need
Baxter's charitable giving activities help address the financial, human resource and healthcare needs of organizations around the world. Baxter's foundation contributed $4.8 million in worldwide grants and matching gifts in 2005, most to increase access to care for the poor, disadvantaged and underserved in communities where Baxter employees live and work. Baxter product donations totaled $17.8 million, most giving to underdeveloped nations and countries in crisis. In addition, approximately $14 million was given by Baxter's businesses and facilities to address critical local needs.

Baxter Supports Earthquake Victims in India and Pakistan Through Donation of Meningitis Vaccines, Foundation Grant and Employee Matching Gifts
In February, Baxter announced the donation of more than 280,000 doses of the company's NeisVac-C vaccine, a meningococcal group C vaccine, to International Health Partners (IHP), a charitable organization dedicated to providing donated medical aid to communities in the developing world. The donation is helping IHP complete the inoculation of nearly 500,000 earthquake victims at risk of contracting meningitis in Kashmir in advance of spring, one of the region's most prevalent seasons for outbreaks. In addition to this vaccine donation, the company also announced a $250,000 grant from The Baxter International Foundation to CARE USA in support of the organization's earthquake relief efforts in India and Pakistan.
