- October 19, 2008 - VolunteerMatch, the Internet's largest and most popular volunteering network, has honored Exelon as "Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year" in its annual survey of employee volunteer engagement in the United States.

In recognizing the Chicago-based utility, VolunteerMatch noted that Exelon's "Energy for the Community" program exceeded all benchmarks for the corporations that VolunteerMatch tracks. The average Exelon volunteer, for example, donates 43 hours of service each year - as compared with an average of 26 hours for the other corporations tracked. In all, Exelon employees volunteered more than 35,000 hours of service at community organizations.

Earlier this year, Exelon presented employee Frank Flammini with its top community service award for his volunteer activity with the Wounded Heroes Foundation, assisting men and women of the armed forces who have been seriously injured in combat zones around the world. Along with the recognition, a $20,000 cash grant from Exelon was made in Flammini's name to the Wounded Heroes Foundation, and Flammini was asked to represent the company at the annual Jefferson Awards for Public Service celebration in Washington, D.C.

In all, Exelon donated a total of $100,000 in cash grants to the nonprofit organizations of its top 12 volunteers as part of its Energy for the Community Employee Volunteer Awards program.

"Exelon has done an exceptional job incorporating effective communication, innovative recognition programs, and outstanding nonprofit partnerships," said Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch. "We're pleased to honor Exelon as a corporate leader and proud to work with them to promote and engage their employees."

"Our volunteers bring to life Exelon's pledge of corporate citizenship," said Steve Solomon, Exelon director of corporate relations. "I am proud of the innovation and passion our employees have brought to our Energy for the Community program."

Exelon launched the Energy for the Community volunteer program in 2005. Since its inception, Exelon employees have tracked nearly 100,000 hours of community service while at the same time Exelon has donated nearly $115 million to charitable organizations.

In addition to Exelon, VolunteerMatch recognized the management team behind LexisNexis Cares, a program of information solutions provider LexisNexis, with its Employee Champion Award for work inspiring and engaging employee volunteers.
