VolunteerMatch Teams Up with Corporation for National and Community Service to Promote U.S. Volunteering Trends

July 28, 2008 - In an innovative partnership that brings together the nation's leading volunteer matching Web service and the most comprehensive research on U.S. volunteering ever assembled, VolunteerMatch today launched a promotion with the Corporation for National and Community Service to educate Web users about the trends and demographics underlying service in America.

Through the partnership, volunteers searching for local opportunities at www.volunteermatch.org can now learn how their city or state ranks nationally against other communities. The data comes from Volunteering in America: 2008 State and City Trends & Rankings, the second annual report by the Corporation for National and Community Service to take a detailed look at volunteering habits and trends at the city level. The report is based on data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics, and showcases how demographics, geography, and other trends impact volunteering levels.

According to the new report, the Twin Cities metro region took top honors in 2007 among large cities while residents of Provo, Utah, volunteered more than any other midsize city. On a state level, residents of Utah volunteered more per capita than any other state, followed by Nebraska and Minnesota.

This year, for the first time, the Corporation has created an interactive Web site, www.VolunteeringinAmerica.gov, where visitors are invited to use tools to produce custom trend reports, see demographic charts, and learn more about the benefits of volunteering.

"We're delighted to work with the Corporation to educate our users about issues of service and involvement where they live," said Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch. "This is an audience with a passion for making a difference, and as they search for their favorite causes we think they will be very interested in how their community compares."

"By giving a look under the hood about how and where people volunteer, VolunteeringinAmerica.gov tells us a lot about engaging tomorrow's volunteers," said Corporation CEO David Eisner. "We appreciate VolunteerMatch making this goldmine of volunteering data easy to find for its users."
