SAN FRANCISCO – VolunteerMatch and the Timberland Company today announced the launch of Timberlandserve.com, an interactive web resource created to help consumers connect with community service opportunities in their local area. Partnering with VolunteerMatch, the web’s premiere network of volunteer opportunities, Timberland launched the site as part of its continuing commitment to creating positive change in the communities in which it does business. The web site features a searchable database of nearly 30,000 nationwide volunteer opportunities, and allows consumers to search by location or by organization, enabling them to serve in the neighborhood or industry of their choice.

In addition to volunteer opportunities, the site highlights Timberland’s broad commitment to community through its corporate social responsibility policies and practices. Timberlandserve.com also features news articles about current national and international social and environmental responsibility topics through its partnership with Dialog/NewsEdge, a web-based information service provider. Consumers also have the opportunity to receive updates on these issues via email and read inspirational stories about everyday heroes.

“We can’t do it alone. By partnering with VolunteerMatch, we stand to make a far more significant impact by inspiring and empowering other citizens, and other companies as well, to make a difference in their own communities,” said Jeff Swartz, President and CEO of Timberland. “There is no telling how much positive change we can effect when we bring those with a genuine desire to serve to the source of the need.”

Throughout the year, Timberland joins with customers, vendors, retailers and community partners in high-impact service projects in local neighborhoods across the United States and around the world. Annual events including Serv-a-palooza and Earth Day engage thousands of volunteers across the globe in making a difference in their communities. Last month, Timberland also launched the Community Builders Tour to join with customers in New York and Baltimore on local service projects and community celebrations. The tour is slated to expand to multiple cities in 2004.
