VolunteerMatch is the nonprofit web service that simplifies the process of finding and getting involved in volunteer opportunities throughout the United States. Potential volunteers enter their ZIP code on the volunteer home page at www.volunteermatch.org to receive an up-to-date listing of local volunteer opportunities, all of which are posted by local and national volunteer organizations. Volunteers may also specify an interest—such as helping children, the homeless or the environment—to refine the list of available opportunities. A volunteer then clicks on an opportunity to sign up to help out, either in-person or virtually.
At VolunteerMatch, interest in volunteering remains at an all-time high. Prior to 9/11, volunteer referrals averaged 20,000 per month on VolunteerMatch. In the two years since, interested volunteers have generated an average of more than 30,000 referrals per month through the service. In fact, in July 2003, VolunteerMatch generated nearly 40,000 volunteer referrals, the most ever in the organization’s 5-year history. People throughout the nation remain committed to volunteering, and more than ever, are turning to VolunteerMatch to find ways to get involved.
