WASHINGTON, D.C.- March 13, 2007- The Munich Re Group, a global market leader in property-casualty, life and health reinsurance, and Germany's second largest primary insurer, has today announced its decision to become a member of the World Environment Center, a global non-profit, non-advocacy organization that is a leader in advancing sustainable development business practices. In 2006, The Munich Re Group wrote over 37 billion euros in insurance premiums and employs over 37,000 people. These include many scientists and engineers from 80 disciplines who analyse and evaluate the constant stream of facts and trends in such areas as alternative energy sources, climate change, public health issues and environmental and product liability. Munich Re has been among the reinsurers given top ratings by rating agencies such as Fitch, Moody’s and Standard & Poor's.

"Our decision to join the World Environment Center represents a great match between two global leaders," stated Dr. Gerhard Schmid, Head of Casualty Risk Consulting at the Munich Re Group. "Our company must possess a second-to-none understanding of real and potential risks as the cornerstone of our business. WEC provides us with direct access to leading companies, policymakers and other institutions that possess information critical to our business."

The World Environment Center, headquartered in Washington, D.C. with offices and operations in many emerging and developed markets, is unique in its direct application of sustainable development strategies and practices to the business operations of its members. WEC currently includes a membership of global companies in twelve different business sectors and has partnerships with a number of government agencies and academic institutions.

"Munich Re represents quality and leadership and will be a great addition to an already stellar group of companies that advance sustainable development through the World Environment Center," concluded Dr. Terry F. Yosie, President & CEO. "Munich Re will strengthen our capabilities and will directly benefit from the extensive business, governmental and stakeholder relationships so necessary to success in the global community."
