Intelli-Check And MADD Join Forces To Prevent Underage Drinking

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and INTELLI-CHECK, INC. (AMEX:IDN) have entered into an agreement which is designed to increase the use of ID-CHECK(R)--an age and document verification system--that allows restaurants, grocery and convenience stores, casinos, hotels and other types of establishments to quickly and easily identify fake IDs and prevent those under 21 from purchasing alcohol.

Through the promotion, Intelli-Check--the acknowledged leader in document and age verification--is also helping to raise money for MADD to continue its efforts to prevent underage drinking by making a donation to MADD for each system sold in this program.

"Underage drinking is the Nation's No. 1 youth drug problem--killing 6.5 times more young people than all other illicit drugs combined," MADD President Wendy J. Hamilton said. "The combination of the utilization of ID-CHECK and IDentiScan products together with the proper training on their capabilities can help save our young people from the dangers and consequences of youth alcohol use."

Research shows that the adolescent brain is not fully developed until the age of 21 and that alcohol use by adolescents can cause irreparable brain damage. Early use of alcohol appears to be strongly related to alcohol dependency and alcohol-related problems later in life. Research also shows that an early age of drinking onset is strongly related to an increased risk of being injured while under the influence of alcohol. Prevention and intervention programs are some of the key components in preventing youth from drinking before the age of 21, which this joint effort addresses.

"Intelli-Check is pleased to be associated with MADD in its all-out effort to deal with one of the nation's major social problems," stated Frank Mandelbaum, chairman and chief executive officer of Intelli-Check. "Our ID-CHECK technology has already demonstrated how it can make a valuable contribution to combat underage drinking through its use in retail outlets and restaurants that sell alcoholic products and through its successful utilization in Operation ID Checker, a program that was developed by a coalition of MADD Northern Virginia, the Arlington County Police, the Arlington County Sheriff's Office, the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, Marymount University and Intelli-Check, funded by a grant from the Virginia Department of Beverage Control. We look forward to the opportunity to work with MADD in developing a marketing program to reach bars, nightclubs, liquor stores, hospitality locations and retailers of alcoholic beverages that could utilize our technology to prevent the inadvertent sale of alcohol to underage purchasers supported by fake IDs."

MADD is a grassroots non-profit organization with the mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime, and prevent underage drinking. Founded in 1980, MADD has more than 600 affiliates and approximately 2 million members and supporters nationwide. For more information, visit www.madd.org.
