Before you aimlessly try to wander through the complex maze of information available on the Nonprofit sector in Texas, check out the new Texasnonprofits (TXNP) website at www.txnp.org.
New search capabilities and relevant information on philanthropy has been added to the newly re-designed web site to help those who need to find connections in the nonprofit arena in Texas. Called the "Voice of and for Texas Nonprofits", TXNP has gathered and organized a great deal of information about funders, corporations, individuals, nonprofits, and government entities that comprise the great community of socially responsible Texans. A brand new blog, The Socially Responsible Salon will also debut on Monday, January 24, 2005. The purpose of the blog is to present relevant current information quickly to keep the philanthropic community informed.
In 2004 the TXNP website hosted over 50,000 unique visitors, and had close to 1 million hits. Jacqueline Beretta, Editor and Publisher of Texasnonprofits said, "TXNP is like a Town Square, a meeting place where the nonprofit community can learn about current trends in fundraising and stewardship; read about what other nonprofits are doing around the state; see who is giving to what; and find others to collaborate with to accomplish their mission."
"With cuts in social services at the federal and state levels, the responsibility of caring for the most needy in Texas will fall to foundations, faith-based organizations, corporations and individuals."
What's next on the agenda? Beretta intends to make sense out of the often fragmented area of corporate giving. "Healthy corporations have such a great opportunity to contribute to the quality of life in the communities in which they exist - the very communities that grow, educate and nurture their future employees. They also can unite and create bonds within their companies by encouraging their employees to give and volunteer."
Beretta founded the Texasnoprofits.org web portal in 2001, and has proceeded to gather a valuable archive of information available to members of the organization. TXNP's new Web site offers many free benefits to registered users, including job opportunities, foundation news, a calendar listing events from nonprofit groups across the state, a directory of nonprofit consultants, volunteer opportunities, and nonprofit wish lists. The site has several fee-based services include the Texas Online Foundation Directory, which includes information on more than four thousand foundations in the state, and a database of more than seventy thousand nonprofit groups that can be searched by geographic location, area of interest, and size.
