Working closely with UN officials, such as Assistant Secretary General, Gillian Martin Sorensen and Executive Director of UNICEF, Carol Bellamy, JCI delegates examined some of the key global challenges facing our leaders of today and tomorrow, such as ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership. Mrs. Nane Annan, the wife of Kofi Annan also personally presented a paper entitled "Water and Women". Delegates also discussed ways in which JCI can assist the UN in successfully carrying out these programs.
"We are thrilled to be collaborating with JCI because we believe that it is of the utmost importance to provide our future business and civil leaders with the necessary skills to understand and combat the ever increasing challenges facing humanity. We believe they will drive forward the delivery of vital programs in important areas," said Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General.
"The JCI-UN Summit represents a historic opportunity for the next generation of leaders," said JCI President Bruce Rector, Partner at the Lexington, KY law firm, Woodward Hobson & Fulton LLP. "The future collaboration between JCI and the UN will continue the advancement of the global community by providing the opportunity for business leaders to create change."
