"Our lead free initiative aligns with ZiLOG's commitment to customer satisfaction and dedication to pursuing measures that foster a clean environment," said Mike Burger, president of ZiLOG. "Currently, it is primarily our customers in Europe and Japan that are advocating for lead-free products, but these European directives are bound to impact the global marketplace and we want to be ready for that."
ZiLOG uses 100 percent pure matte tin (Tn) plating on its lead free products. The devices are rated for peak temperatures of up to 255(degrees)C (compared to 240(degrees)C for standard products) and use mold compounds that are Br/Sb/PBB/PBDE-free. The new packages meet the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020.
The parts will be identified with a unique ZiLOG PSI part number that includes a "G" (for Green), to indicate environmentally friendly packages. The devices offer standard lead times. Customers may request a lead free version of any currently shipping ZiLOG device by contacting any of ZiLOG's worldwide sales offices.
